TEAMS

Leatherhead Tennis Club (LTC) has enjoyed considerable success in a number competitions and currently operates men’s, ladies’, mixed and veterans’ teams in the National Club League, Surrey, Dorking & Leatherhead and Chaucer Leagues.

If you would like to try out for a team, please speak to our Head Coach, Alex Jackson (alex@leatherheadtennis.com). If Alex feels you are of a suitable standard, he will liaise with our team co-ordinators, Scott Dowsett (men’s) and Stephanie Poujade (ladies) to find a suitable team for you. Typically a prospective team player will join prearranged team practice nights for three weeks to make sure the member or potential member is comfortable with team tennis.

Team practice is held from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday evenings with courts pre assigned by the Club’s Committee, although there is often a break during peak match season (May to August). Some practice sessions are coached, particularly towards the run up to competition, and there is a small charge for players who participate in these valuable

organised sessions. Attendance is co-ordinated by Scott Dowsett and Stephanie Poujade, with places typically allocated on a first come, first served basis for players assigned to a team. New balls are also provided for team practice sessions to best simulate competitive match conditions.

Team captains play a vital role in selecting players for matches, organising the competitive matches with other clubs and communicating with team coordinators to ensure we have sufficient talent and movement across the teams. Like all aspects of the club, our team programme relies heavily on volunteers to be team captains, team co-ordinators, to organise team practice and to ensure our teams are entered into the relevant leagues. Team players are expected to take a turn in filling these roles or assist with related team administrative responsibilities.

LTC Team Tennis also encourages organised social occasions, for those who wish to join in, to enhance, encourage and develop lasting team relationships on and off the court. All members are very welcome to watch teams during home games in support of their club and team players. So whether you are a junior wishing to get involved in competitive tennis, a new comer to LTC or an existing member who would like to experience team tennis there is undoubtedly

opportunity for you at Leatherhead Tennis Club.
